Here we are, at the beginning of pumpkin spice season (for those of you who are unfamiliar: this season begins before the start of fall, normally directly following Labor Day). I love pumpkin. Pumpkin pie has been my favorite dessert since I was a kid. And pumpkin is healthy. Pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks…not so much.
I’ve been whipping up this Shakeology recipe on the regular for a while now. It’s soooooo much healthier for you than a sugary blended coffee drink and still has all of the delicious pumpkin spice flavors.
With this recipe, you can use vanilla or cafe latte Shakeology depending on if you want your shake to be more on the coffee flavored side or more on the vanilla side. You can also use regular protein powder, but you won’t have anywhere near the nutritional value as you would with Shakeology.
I buy canned pumpkin, I just make sure that the only ingredient is pumpkin. You don’t want the pumpkin pie mix because it has all kinds of extra stuff in it. You will only use about 1/3 of a can for this recipe. I just put the rest in a container and keep it in the fridge until I need it.
So, for those of you using portion containers, this shake is: 1 red (Shakeology), 1 green (pumpkin), 1 spoon (almond milk). You could add some walnuts to this and get a blue container in there, too. I just love how easy it is to load up these shakes and get a ton of good nutrients out of it!
