Facing Insecurities

We all have something about ourselves that we aren’t completely happy with–big thighs, love handles, short eyelashes, stretch marks. I promise that everyone has something, maybe a few somethings. For me, it has always been my arms, for as long as I can remember. They are the first place to gain fat, and the last place to lose fat. I’ve always been self-conscious in tank tops. And no matter how many times people downplay your hatred/embarrassment for whatever it is you have an insecurity about, it is always there.

So, here’s what I did to face my insecurities: I changed. I changed my diet, I started keeping track of what I put in my body, gave it the nutrients it needed and kept out the crap that it didn’t. I changed my workouts. I started focusing on getting in enough cardio to burn off extra fat and enough weight training to build muscle. If you follow me on social media, you have heard me say before that I am not afraid of building bulky muscles. I want my physical appearance to match how I feel inside–strong, powerful. After 20 or so years of never really being happy with how my arms look, I am finally feeling good in my own skin. And that’s really what matters, how you feel about you.

Here’s Why any of this matters: This digital world we live in is flooded with images of “perfect” bodies. But YOU are the only one who can decide what is perfect. It’s important to feel comfortable being who you are–big, small, short, tall, and everywhere in between. Don’t try to be someone else, be the best version of you.
